ν is not v
Lowercase nu ν (U+03BD) and the Latin letter v are nearly indistinguishable in many fonts — which is a real problem in physics, where v is velocity and ν is frequency. In handwriting, nu is usually drawn with a sharp point at the bottom and a curl on the right stroke; in LaTeX, \nu is clearly slanted and pointed. If the two meet in one formula, it is worth checking that you pasted the right one.
